One of the world's most interesting sea voyages, the Arctic Umiaq Line, sails the length of the west coast of Greenland, and offers its passengers un unparalleled opportunity to witness Greenlandic village life during its en route stops, and savour the magnificent scenery of this rugged coastline.
Day 1, Monday: Arrive in Keflavik and transfer to your central hotel for a three-night stay
Day 2, Tuesday: A full day Golden Circle tour, visiting some of Iceland’s iconic sights; the ancient parliament site of Thingvellir, the waterfall at Gullfoss and the dramatic hot springs at Geysir. Time in the evening to find one of Reykjavik’s wonderful restaurants, and enjoy the late summer-evening light as you explore the city.
Day 3, Wednesday: A free day to explore Reykjavik, or perhaps book one of the many additional day tours that are available. Touring, whale-watching, climbing, horseback riding or even a day excursion by plane to the Westman Islands.
Day 4, Thursday: Transfer to the airport in the morning for the direct flight to Ilulissat where you will stay for three nights at the Hotel Hvide Falk, close to the beautiful harbour of this northern town.
Day 5, Friday & Day 6, Saturday: In Illulisat, and time to take one of the many excursions available, including the dramatic boat tour to the face of the Eqi Glacier or simply hiking to one of the local Greenlandic settlements. There are ample opportunities to enjoy Greenlandic life while you are staying in Ilulissat, and we are sure that you will love your time there.
Day 7, Sunday: Board the Sarfaq Ittuk for the sailing south to Nuuk. This ship, a vital link for the Greenlandic coast, and the primary inter-community vessel will take you south for the next 36 hours. You will have a comfortable twin cabin, and enjoy the ship's facilities. While not extravagant, the on-board restaurant and lounge offer good food, and the chance to mix with both local travellers and others touring this remote and gorgeous destination.
Day 8, Monday: The ship will stop today at Aasiat, Manitsoq and Sisimiut, offering you the chance to disembark and explore these communities, each quite different from the other. Catch a glimpse into the daily life of Greenlanders in their remote and picturesque communities.
Day 9, Tuesday: Arrive in Nuuk , The Greenlandic capital, in the morning, and transfer to the hotel. You will have the balance of the day to explore from your central hotel, the Hans Egede; the national Greenland Museum is a particularly interesting collection, and is well worth your time.
Day 10, Wednesday: The morning is free to shop or simply relax by the waterfront. In the afternoon you will fly to Keflavik airport where you can connect to your homeward flight to North America.
