Rail passes are a fantastic way to explore; you can travel throughout Australia at the pace of the train, really get to see the countryside, meet your fellow travellers and enjoy the ambience of slow-paced travel.
This pass is available for purchase by bona fide overseas visitors to Australia, and is valid for use on specified rail and coach services operated Great Southern Rail (Red Service seats), Traveltrain (economy seats) and Countrylink (economy seats). It is not valid on any Metropolitan services or North Queensland Tourist Train services.
You will have up to six months to travel, and travel must start within six months of purchasing the pass. Although the pass entitles you to travel only in the economy seats, if you wish, you can upgrade to any higher seating class or sleeping accommodation by paying the applicable supplement; when booking within seven days of travel (until December 31, 2010) you can upgrade for free on the Tilt Train to Cairns!
Please note that the pass is subject to a fuel price surcharge per sector booked on The Ghan, Indian Pacific and The Overland.
