Great Murray River Run
(SP7333A)

The 5 day / 4 night cruise travels through 3 state borders. The journey begins at Lock 1, Blanchetown and heads to Renmark, then north another 100 kms to Kulcurna before finishing at Border Cliffs. Of course, you can reverse this journey and take it downstream instead!

Overnight dinner, bed and breakfast in riverland hotels. Renmark, Loxton & Waikerie all have ensuite facilities.

Day 1: Depart Blanchetown at 10.00 am to begin your 5 day / 4 night, 560km Murray River Run Cruise, board the Spirit of the Murray. Cruise through Lock 1 at Blanchetown, the first lock on the Murray River built in 1921. Stop for lunch at the historic Riverport of Morgan. Hear the history of the area from local historians before taking a walk along the restored wharf precinct and the historic railway station. In the afternoon cruise past Cadell, Red Gum Forest, through Lock 2 before stopping at Waikerie for Dinner / Bed & Breakfast.

Day 2: Depart Waikerie enjoy spectacular scenery before stopping for coach transfer to Banrock Station for morning tea and a video / talk. Banrock Station is an award winning wine and ecotourism destination with panoramic views of the vineyards and wetlands, time will be allowed for a short walk or for wine tasting. Travel by coach to the historic Overland Corner Hotel for lunch. The Overland Corner Hotel was commissioned in the 1850's as a refreshment point for weary travellers, it now is both hotel and museum and boast at having its own resident ghost! Reboard the Spirit of the Murray, cruise by the towns of Kingston on the Murray, Moorook and Cobdogla. Stopping at Loxton Hotel for Dinner / Bed & Breakfast.

Day 3: Depart Loxton, cruising through Kamakazi Flats and Lock 4 before stopping for lunch at Berri. Time will be allowed to explore the town of Berri before boarding the boat to experience the breath taking views as we cruise by Lyrup, through Lock 5 and under the Paringa Bridge. Stopping for Dinner / Bed & Breakfast at Renmark Hotel.

Day 4: Depart Renmark, cruising through spectacular Redgum Forest. before stopping at Wooknal Bend for a walk at the site of a WWII Internment Camp. Cruise further upstream, stopping at Chowilla Station for lunch. After lunch board a coach for a tour of the Chowilla flood plain a spectacular part of the Bookmark Biosphere Reserve, learn about both the European and Aboriginal history, return back to Chowilla Station for afternoon tea. Cruise through Lock 6 and onto Border Cliffs for coach transfers back to Renmark for dinner bed and breakfast.

Day 5: Return by coach back to the Border Cliffs, cruise upstream view S.A./ Vic and S.A./ NSW Borders. Cruise past the ruins of Cal Lal Police Station and Scotties Wood Pile, stopping at "Kulcurna"to listen to bush poet Paul Hanson and enjoy morning tea. Cruise back to Border Cliffs for a BBQ lunch on the banks of the river at the historic Customs House before for your coach return back to Blanchetown.
