The trip consists of round trip float plane from Campbell River on Vancouver Island, all meals (except third night dinner in Campbell River), including Dungeness Crab, plus two full and one partial days with the Grizzly Bears and Orcas in the Knight Inlet Wilderness, three nights accommodation (two at the lodge and one at a lodge of your choice in Campbell River). You may also include many hours of fishing for all species of salmon and for the delicious bottom fish (Halibut, Ling Cod, Rock Cod).

Day 1: Leave Campbell River, on Vancouver Island, late afternoon in your float plane. Enjoy the view of the Coast Mountains, channels and fjords as they pass below. Land at Knight Inlet Lodge on Minstrel Island, the centre of the Knight Inlet wilderness area. Get settled in, meet your guide, relax, set out on a short local trip to view Black Bear feeding on the beach. Return to the lodge and enjoy a delicious dinner and learn some background on the wildlife of the area. Off to bed.

Day 2: Rise early. Coffee and breakfast and into your boat. You are off to Johnstone Strait, the summering grounds of the Orca (Killer Whale). Cruise the area observing pods of these magnificent mammals and with a little luck you'll get to see their cousins, the Minke and Humpback Whales. Another day of diving Bald Eagles, Seals, and the shoreline wildlife, including Black Bears.

After a beach lunch or boat picnic there is more exploring, wildlife viewing, and, if your inclined, some fishing.

Day 3: Rise early. After coffee and breakfast you are off to your boat with your guide. Travel the shores of Knight Inlet, a spectacular scenic fjord, to Glendale Cove where you ride our "Grizzly Bus" (Aug 26-Oct15) up to the salmon spawning channel. Here you can photo huge Grizzly Bears as they feed on these fish using dives, scoops and plunges to trap their prey. Observe two hours from our viewing stand and then back to the boat for lunch and more Grizzly Bear viewing at the Glendale River estuary. Trips before August 26 view the grizzly bears interacting and feeding in the estuary and on the beaches near the river. Cruise Knight Inlet home to Knight Inlet Lodge to meet your late afternoon plane back to Campbell River. Sometimes we change the order of the viewing days to accommodate better Grizzly Bear or Whale viewing. Finally, weather can effect the quality of viewing.

Options and Additional Itinerary

1. Explore Knight Inlet. Boat to the mouth of the Glendale River. Observe Grizzly Bears feeding at the estuary, then travel farther up the inlet through mountains and past magnificent waterfalls - a great photographic trip.

2. Re-run the Johnstone Straits trip for extra viewing (Orca, Humpback, Dolphin, Eagle, sea lion, etc.).

3. Our exciting wild river adventure. Leave early morning by boat through the scenic Tribune Channel and Thompson Sound. View Eagles, Seals and Black Bear. Arrive at the river mouth, met there by your guide Trapper Rick, and travel by ATVs up an abandoned logging road to Rick's cabin. Explore the many pools and falls. View the spawning salmon while keeping an eye out for grizzly bears. Grizzlies are often seen and occasionally a wolf is spotted. Eat your picnic lunch by a waterfall and then home via your ATVs and boat. [This trip is of medium difficulty. There is a $100 per person extra charge for the trip].

4. Repeat of grizzly trip to the viewing stand. This option only available to guests staying at the lodge 4 or more nights and takes place August 25 - October 15.
