For over thirty years we have been offering tours to head north and watch the polar bears. Now, we want to introduce a new series of tours, our "Bear Country Adventures", offering those short on time, or looking for an economical alternative to our conventional tours, a chance to head north and visit our wonderful Polar Bear population.
Day 1: Arrive in Winnipeg, and depart this afternoon on your northbound flight to Churchill. Located on the shores of Hudson Bay, this iconic town is known as The Polar Bear Capital of the World. Upon arrival in Churchill you will be transferred to your accommodation. Experience local cuisine at one of the town's restaurants this evening.
Day 2: The Kingdom of the Ice Bear! Every autumn, these extraordinary animals prowl along the coast of the Hudson Bay, anxiously waiting for the sea ice to form. Once the bay freezes over, the bears move out onto the ice and spend the winter hunting seals. From the security of the giant Tundra Vehicle you will capture the first sightings of these magnificent creatures in their natural environment. Return to the hotel at dusk, with an evening at leisure. (B, L)
Day 3: Take an optional dog-sledding tour, helicopter ride or Town and Area tour today. Transfer to the airport for an early evening flight to Winnipeg. For those short of time, visit the unique gift shops or take last minute photos this morning, prior to transferring to the Churchill airport for your late morning flight. You will arrive in Winnipeg early afternoon, with an opportunity to connect to an onward flight. Alternatively, spend an optional night or two in this vibrant prairie city. (B)
There is the option of taking the train one-way and flying the other. Out of Winnipeg the train operates Sundays and Tuesdays, out of Churchill Saturdays and Thursdays. These dates are subject to VIA Rail's final 2012 schedule.
For those taking an additional night in Churchill, there is an opportunity to take one of the many additional tour programs; perhaps another day out on the Tundra (vehicle permitting), a helicopter tour of the area, a dog-sledding tour or a local coach tour highlighting the rich history of the Churchill region.
Why not spend another couple of nights before or after your polar bear tour in Winnipeg, and learn more of the culture, history and art of the north at the city's fabulous museum and art gallery? Our two-night Winnipeg package will most certainly enhance your visit to Churchill and Canada's North.
