to start planning your Churchill Train Journey aboard the Hudson Bay

Board The Hudson Bay for a 1700 KM journey to Northern Manitoba. Depart from Winnipeg, in the heart of the Canadian prairies. Marvel at the changing landscape as you travel slowly north, from the endless wheat fields in Manitoba, to the rolling hills of Porcupine and Duck Mountains, to the muskeg of the sub-arctic. Your final destination is a remote town on the banks of Hudson Bay, featuring vast tundra and distinct nature. For a total change of scene, include a train journey in your polar bear adventure. The world’s polar bear capital, Churchill Manitoba has developed a tourist industry dedicated to observing these fearsome carnivores. From mid-October to mid-November, tourists can watch this rare animal in its almost inaccessible habitat - from the safety of converted buses. Whale watching is equally fascinating because a large population of belugas migrate every summer into the waters of Hudson Bay and Churchill River. You can even dive in the company of these adorable white whales!

The Hudson Bay is also the only overland transportation serving many communities en route and allows outdoor enthusiasts to get off the train anywhere they want, simply by requesting a special stop! The train's exact route varies depending on its number:

· Train to Churchill no. 693 leaves Winnipeg and travels via The Pas and Wabowden to Churchill. This is the train that travellers "from the South" take to visit Churchill and Hudson Bay. Train no. 692 makes the return journey. 
· Trains to Churchill number 290 and 291 carry passengers between The Pas and Pukatawagan. Connections with trains number 692 and 693 are easy and convenient.

· Comfort class (Economy), the most economical way to travel in this vast region. 

· Sleeper class, which gives you a comfortable bed and access to a shower. These small luxuries will be greatly appreciated, since you spend two nights aboard the train to travel from Winnipeg to Churchill!

VIA Rail Schedules and Reservations 

The Hudson Bay leaves Winnipeg on Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday evenings. If you go as far as Churchill, you'll spend two nights aboard the train. For example, if you depart from Winnipeg on Sunday evening, you'll arrive in Churchill on Tuesday morning. On the way back, the train leaves Churchill for Winnipeg on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday evenings.
