Iceland is an amazing country and this 4-day tour will get you off the main roads into the wild and rugged Westfjords area, a remarkable place. If this tour is being used as an add-on to an existing self-drive program that doesn't already include the drive up the west coast from Reykjavik to the Snaefellsness Peninsula some adjustments will need to be made.
Option 1:
Day 1: Head north from Reykjavik to the Snaefellsness Peninsula, where you spend one night in Stykissholmur.
Day 2: Today you catch the Baldur Ferry to cross the magnificent Breidafjordur Bay to the Westfjords. Continue to Isafjordur for a two night stay.
Day 3: A full day to explore, and possibly hike, kayak, cycle or take an optional boat cruise.
Day 4: Today you turn in your rental vehicle and fly back to Reykjavik or you can drive east to rejoin the main ring road and continue on your longer self-drive itinerary, heading towards Akureryi. A stop midway between Isafjordur and Akureryi is recommended.
Option 2:
Day 1: Head north from Reykjavik to Stykkisholmur on the Snaefellsness Peninsula, where you catch the Baldur Ferry to cross the magnificent Breidafjordur Bay to the Westfjords. Continue to Isafjordur for a two night stay.
Day 2: A full day to explore, and possibly hike, kayak, cycle or take an optional boat cruise.
Day 3: Head south today to beautiful Hapnarfjordur where you spend one night.
Day 4: Today you drive back south to Reykjavik or rejoin the longer self-drive itinerary, continuing on the ring road, heading towards Akureryi.
