Iqaluit is one of the world's most interesting capital cities
Located in the southern part of Baffin Island, some 1,300 miles north of Montreal, it is home to over 6,000 people, and a host of interesting activities.
Fly from Ottawa, Canada's capital city, and three hours later land in the Arctic. Transfer to your accommodation, booked for two nights at the Frobisher Inn or Capital Suites Hotel. There are no planned activities while you are in town; Iqaluit is small enough to explore by foot, and the best place to start off is the Unikkaarvik Regional Visitor's Centre, which will acquaint you with all the attractions Iqaluit has to offer.
In town, visit Nunavut's Legislative Assembly for architecture that is sure to impress. View the permanent exhibit of Inuit sculpture, prints and artifacts at the Nunatta Sunakkutaangit Museum. Or shop to your heart's content for specialty art and jewelry, traditional clothing and colourful parkas.
Our package is available all year, and for those fascinated by the culture of the north, a winter visit is a must. Local outfitters will take you out to some of the local historical sites, or you can even extend the trip to spend a night in the Inuit hamlet of Kimmirut, only a short flight to the south of Iqaluit. In the summer, the weather is cool, but usually bright, and the sun is up for almost twenty-four hours!
Whatever your interests, this short Arctic-break tour will whet your appetite to explore more of Canada's fascinating Nunavut Territory.
