By day Edinburgh is a bustling
metropolis – but at night
the old buildings and narrow
closes take on a more
sinister air…A long history
of murder, torture, hangings
and plague has left a
haunting legacy on the
city's Old Town and ghostly
apparitions now walk its
streets.
Enter the underground
vaults whose walls, it is
said, have absorbed the
memories of those who once
lived and worked there. This
part of the tour is not for
the faint-hearted. Cling
tightly to the person beside
you: we try to leave with
the same number as we had on
going in!
*Choose the extended tour
and end your experience with
a complimentary drink in the
atmospheric Megget’s
Cellar, a candlelit nook
located above the
Underground Vaults, where
the guide will continue to
entertain you with eerie
tales from Edinburgh’s past.

In days of old Edinburgh folk
gathered at the Mercat Cross
to enjoy gruesome and bloody
entertainment. This tour
continues the age-old
tradition with this
terrifying late-night
stroll.
Feast your ears on tales
of the macabre told
dramatically by our cloaked
guide. Descend into haunted
underground vaults. Walk
through a deserted moonlit
churchyard.
Why can voices be heard
to this day in an empty
guesthouse room? What gave
off the foul stench that
greeted the Duke at his
Edinburgh home? What was the
link between Major Weir and
Satan? Why was a woman
buried before her time? And
who was the man they could
not hang?
For the answer to these
and other mysteries
surrounding Edinburgh's
dastardly past the Ghost
Hunter Trail is a must!
Please note that we
cannot allow children under
age 16 on this tour due to
the nature of it's content.

…If walls could talk, these
are the stories they would
tell!
A great bridge is built
spanning a deep valley to
the south of the Royal Mile.
Under its 19 enormous
arches, in a catacomb of
underground chambers, a
community begins to thrive.
Trades, first legal and then
illicit, flourish - and in
these hard times there is
nothing that cannot be
bought or sold for a purse
of gold! …Such a parcel of
rogues in a nation!
The underground vaults
were created in the late
18th century, abandoned by
the 1830s - and only opened
again to the public in 1994.
The labyrinth of corridors
and chambers you visit
remain unchanged from two
hundred years ago. Visit
this unique attraction and
capture a very special
moment in the evolution of
this city.
