Mystery, myth, legend, and
history set among some of
the most breathtaking
scenery of the Scottish
Highlands.
VISIT URQUHART CASTLE AND
CRUISE LOCH NESS ONLY WITH
TIMBERBUSH TOURS
From Glasgow we travel
north, via LOCH LOMOND, over
RANNOCH MOOR and the BLACK
MOUNT to awesome, tragic
GLENCOE, setting for myth,
misdeed and magnificence.
We enter the GREAT GLEN
beneath Britain's highest
mountain, BEN NEVIS, hugging
canal, river and loch-side
past FORT AUGUSTUS tracing
the 24 mile shoreline of
LOCH NESS. Here you can
choose to visit the unique
URQUHART CASTLE - made
famous by many sightings of
the LOCH NESS monster -
followed by an optional 5
STAR JACOBITE CRUISE on the
mysterious and legendary
waters of LOCH NESS.
Loch Ness is the subject of
the recent fantasy film, "WATERHORSE:
LEGEND OF THE DEEP". This
new film tells the story of
two children who find an egg
on the beach in Scotland,
which hatches into a "water
horse" - the "water horse",
named Crusoe, grows up to be
the legendary Loch Ness
monster.
At INVERNESS the most
northerly point of the tour
we turn for home, crossing
the GRAMPIANS and the FOREST
OF ATHOLL with an evening
refreshment stop in
Pitlochry en route. |
Spend a day in the majestic
beating heart of Scotland; a
land of ancient fortresses,
flowing stream, lochs,
forests and hills; a land of
kings, heroes, thieves and
rogues!
During our all too brief
excursion through the city
centre you will see the
heart of the dynamic modern
city and learn about its
rise to greatness within
Britain. Look out for key
landmarks such as the
Cathedral, the University,
and the Fairfield Crane as
we pass
Continuing on we pass
over the Firth of Clyde
close by the ancient capital
of of Strathclyde,
Dumbarton, with its rocky
fortress and on to bonnie
Loch Lomond, Britain's
largest expanse of fresh
water. Your time here can be
spent on a cruise around the
southern parts of the loch
or you can walk along it
shores at the beautiful
conservation village of Luss
with its Viking grave
Leaving Loch Lomond we
travel to our lunch stop in
the village of Aberfoyle,
gateway to the Trossachs.
After lunch we enter the
Trossachs, foothills of the
Highlands, driving by hills
and lochs that were once the
haunt of Rob Roy MacGregor,
one of Scotland's most
famous Highlanders.
Our final stop of the day
is at the mighty Stirling
Castle, Scotland's most
strategically important
fortress, Royal home of the
Stewart Dynasty. You will
have time to visit the
castle and hear of the
exploits of key historical
figures like William
Wallace, Robert Bruce, King
of Scots, King James V, Mary
Queen of Scots, and Bonnie
Prince Charlie.

Spend a day travelling through
a landscape of incredible
natural beauty - a land of
ancient castles mirrored in
lochs, sheltered by
mountains.
Leaving dynamic Glasgow this
exciting day trip heads west
to the HIGHLANDS where we
pass DUMBARTON'S imposing
ROCK with its equally
impressive CASTLE. From
here, our "ROAD TO THE
ISLES" is marked by more
dramatic castles (INVERARAY,
KILCHURN, and DUNSTAFFNAGE),
shimmering lochs, (LOCHS
LOMOND, LONG, FYNE, AWE,
ETIVE AND MORE) imposing
mountains and rugged glens.
A brief stop in the
beautiful village of LUSS,
on the "BONNIE, BONNIE
BANKS" of LOCH LOMOND then
we'll climb through the
stunning scenery to the
summit of the pass where
travellers have had reason
to "REST AND BE THANKFUL"
before descending to sea
level at LOCH FYNE.
Enjoy stops at INVERARAY
with its GEORGIAN HOUSES at
the water's edge in the
shadow of the CLAN CAMPBELL
CHIEF'S NEO-GOTHIC PALACE
and the picturesque town of
OBAN with its HORSE-SHOE
BAY.
Your guide will take you to
visit either INVERARAY
CASTLE or DUNSTAFFNAGE
CASTLE* - both equally
impressive. On your descent
you can enjoy breathtaking
views across LOCH AWE to the
ruins of KILCHURN CASTLE,
with scenic mountains
beyond. Don't forget to look
for eagles in the PASS OF
BRANDER as we commence our
return journey, which takes
us via the GREAT WESTERN
ROAD back to Glasgow. |

Spend a wonderful day out
exploring scenic lochs,
glens, waterfalls, and
Scotland's
oldest distillery
- Glenturret.
Leaving Glasgow we travel
through stunning woodland
scenery to the village of
Aberfoyle. Sir Walter
Scott's poem, 'The Lady of
Lake' attracted so many
tourists to the area that
the Duke of Montrose had to
build a road north from Aberfoyle, which winds
through the gap in the hills
and became known as 'The
Duke's Pass'.
After a stop for
refreshments and photos,
offering us wonderful
panoramic scenery, we
continue north, through the
narrow Pass of Leny, and
into The Trossachs, gateway
to the Highlands. Beyond the
scenic beauty of Strathyre,
time permitting, we can make
a short diversion to Balquidder, to see
Rob Roy's Grave.
After the delights of Loch
Earn and Strathearn Valley,
we'll stop for lunch in
Crieff, at Scotland's
oldest Distillery,
Glenturret, dating back to
1775. Afterwards we can
enjoy the famous Grouse Experience
Tour - with time for a taste
of Scotland's favourite
whisky!
We'll commence our descent
via the historic hamlet of
Doune, home to fascinating
14th Century Doune Castle,
once occupied by Jacobite
soldiers, and more recently,
the setting for the comedy
film Monty Python & The Holy
Grail.
After a photo stop, we'll
continue south to the city
of Stirling: rich in legends
and historical events, with
its imposing castle and
historic links to William
Wallace and Robert the Bruce. We'll stop to walk
and explore - if we have
time, we'll take a trip to
view the Wallace Monument
before returning to Glasgow. |
This journey explores the
bonnie banks of Loch Lomond
and the impressive
mountains, lochs and castles
of Argyll and the West
Highlands. Spectacular
scenery and enthralling
historical tales make this
an unforgettable day.

Journey through the ancient
'Kingdom of Fife' - once a
Pictish princedom. Famed for
its picturesque fishing
villages, Medieval palaces,
castles and - of course - St
Andrews; home of golf,
ancient seat of learning,
and last known resting place
of bones of St Andrew! |
