Iceland is an amazing country. If you are short of time but want to see some of the countryside outside of the capital city this short program can be done as stand alone self-drive. It may also be added on to some of our self-drive programs, taking you off the main beat for a couple of days around the Snaefellsness Peninsula.
Day 1: Pick up your rental vehicle this morning (collection from your hotel is included). Drive from Reykjavik north to Stykkisholmur, the main town in the Snaefellsness region, where you will spend two nights. In the afternoon, you will join a boat tour - whale watching in season - to see the delightful coastline and its rich bird life.
Day 2: A full day to enjoy and explore the sheltered fjords and dramatic coastlines of the peninsula. Visit Snaefellsjokull, an active volcano, and Jules Verne's starting point for his "Journey to the Centre of the Earth", and head down to the sea to visit historical fishing villages.
Day 3: Today you will head back to Reykjavik, cross Breidafjordur Bay for our extension to the rugged Westfjords or rejoin the main ring road to rejoin your fly/drive itinerary and continue your drive around Iceland.
